Jaundice-UGH!

This is a little post about Colin's jaundice in the beginning. It's a super long story, but I'm going to try to keep it short. Colin's bilirubin levels were a little high when we left the hospital. They recommended that we put him in the sun and feed him as much as possible. The next day (Monday) we took him to the pediatrician and they were a little higher. We took him again on Tuesday for another blood draw. The pediatrician's office called back Tuesday afternoon and said his levels were higher and that we should take him to the hospital for treatment. Our pediatrician was on vacation, and his partner called telling us to go to the hospital and they would be expecting us. We got there and no one knew what was going on. They said that they don't admit babies for treatment, so he would have to go to the children's hospital in ATL. We were waiting forever and they finally said that they would repeat the bilirubin test and if it was down, we could go home, but if it was higher, we'd need to go to Scottish Rite children's hospital in Atlanta. They repeated the bili test & it fortunately had dropped from 17.2 to 16.1. So they sent us home and our doctor ordered a bili blanket for him to use for phototherapy at home. It was a little pad with lights that slides under his onesie and he would sleep on it. The lights broke down the excess bilirubin and he would pass it when he pooped. It worked really well and his levels went down and he only had to do treatment for a few days.
