Hospital Stay

So Colin was born right after midnight on Friday, June 10th and we went home on Sunday, June 12th around lunchtime. They took great care of us at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Colin was born with a bit of a fever so they had to do blood work at 24 hours and again at 48 hours. He was also a little large for his gestational age so they had to prick his heel every couple of hours to check his blood sugar. He roomed in with us so we took care of him and worked on nursing. My mom stayed the first two nights so that Mario could rest and take care of the dogs. Mario stayed with us the last night. Colin had lots of poopy diapers as he was passing all of the meconium. I was kind of glad to be unable to move very much so my mom and Mario took care of changing those! I was pretty sore at first and had a hard time getting up and moving around. By the 2nd day I was feeling much better and was much more mobile. We didn't get a lot of sleep because we were constantly interrupted for them to take our vitals, check Colin's blood sugar, check my uterus, give me my medicine, etc. We had a few visitors but it was nothing overwhelming. One great thing about the hospital was the food! I got a menu and I was able to order whatever I wanted for each meal. The food was pretty yummy and I was always excited to hear them come in with the food! It really felt like a hotel in that sense, and they would even say "room service" when they came in! By Sunday morning we had done everything on our checklist in order to be discharged. Colin passed his hearing test and did his newborn testing. They also tested him for jaundice. His level was a little high so they told us we would have to see the pediatrician again the next day. We got everything packed up, put Colin in his car seat, and headed home! We were nervous that they were letting us leave with this precious little baby, but we were excited to get home!

All strapped in and ready to go home!
